Outline:

  • December is the beginning of our “Winter Season”.
  • This part of the season is the hardest for student-athletes, as it includes both an increase in school work, as well as harder practices in the pool.
  • Swimmers can expect to do the “meat” of their training starting in December.
  • Practices will be geared towards mid-season training, which emphasizes longer and harder workouts.
  • It is important for swimmers to keep a balanced schedule with school and training.
  • Encourage your swimmers to develop a pattern for their daily schedule.
  • The tough winter season can be positive and help develop good time-management skills
  • We are limited in the number of meets offered this month, so we encourage all swimmers to participate if they are eligible.

January

Dates:
 2nd: Regular Practice Schedule
5th-6th: PVS January Distance Meet (MEET)
10th: Parent Organization/AVCSC Meeting 7:30 @ Lakes Rec. Center
13th: Snowball Splash 9 & Under Mini Meet (MEET)
19th-20th: PVS January Open (MEET)

Outline:

  • In the month of January, we will continue our hardest training.
  • We use this month to prepare swimmers to be able to swim fast when they are tired.
  • We will encourage swimmers to continue to work hard day in and day out.
  • It is important for swimmers to understand that all their hard work is needed to achieve their goals.
  • Younger swimmers will continue to practice at a high level and encouraged to continue to try and get better.
  • Older swimmers can expect to be tired and warn down. All of this is part of the process and will be beneficial to them at the end of the season.
  • We use the meets during this month to measure where the swimmers are during their hardest training.

February

Dates:
1st-2nd: Red and Black Invitational (MEET)
9th-10th: 14&Under J.O. Qualifier (MEET)
9th-10th: FISH Qualifier (MEET)
16th-17th: Winter Gator Mini (MEET)
22nd-24th: PVS Age Group B/BB Champs (MEET)
28th-2nd: PVS 14&Under Champs (MEET)

Outline:

  • February is considered the beginning of our Championship portion of the season.
  • This month is filled with qualifying meets, as well as Age Group Champs.
  • Younger swimmers will continue to fine-tune their strokes.
  • Practices will consist of a lot of drills, sprints, starts and turns.
  • Older swimmers will begin their tapering.
  • Swimmers can expect less distance in their workouts, with a concentration on smaller fast paced sets.
  • Older swimmers will begin to feel many different things. Some will feel extra energetic, while others will feel somewhat crummy. Both are perfectly fine and expected.
  • This month is filled with meets. Some of these meets require qualification times. We hope to bring as many swimmers to these meets as possible.
